The Fin Free Thailand campaign celebrated World Earth Day on April 22, 2013 with the launch of the Blue List. The Blue List contains all of the hotels and restaurants which have pledged not to serve shark fin or any shark products at their establishments. More than 200 students joined the event where the Peninsula Hotel Bangkok joined the campaign and various speakers addressed the issues involving the unsustainable, unhealthy and inhumane slaughter and consumption of sharks. Fin Free Thailand is a grassroots campaign encouraging hotels and restaurants to stop serving shark fin, in order to protect endangered sharks, marine ecosystems, and people’s health. It also works to inform consumers of the serious health and environmental risks of eating shark fin, encouraging them to only patronize Fin Free Thailand establishments. Part of a global movement, Fin Free Thailand and the Blue List was initiated by FREELAND under the ARREST Program. The campaign is also supported by Love Wildlife Foundation, Change.org Thailand and Thai citizens, schools and businesses.
