ARREST Joins Vietnam Government Program to Reduce Endangered Wildlife Consumption October 2012

ARREST-Newsletter_02_Oct-Dec-2012_final-17logo-thumbVietnam’s Environmental Administration, Biodiversity Conservation Agency (BCA) launched a new program to reduce public consumption of and illegal trade in
endangered species in Hanoi, entitled “Wildlife Consumption in Vietnam: Reforming Policies and Practices to Strengthen Biodiversity Conservation”.

Supported by ARREST and the Global Environment Facility, the program arose from discussion of concepts and strategy options for a public awareness campaign to change consumer behavior in Vietnam. ARREST and BCA co-produced information brochures on endangered species for Vietnamese officials, including agencies that participated in the launch, such as CITES, Police, Customs, and local NGOs. Launch participants agreed that the key to a successful and long-lasting campaign was securing very high level endorsement and partners plan to approach senior officials to secure their participation and endorsement of a nation-wide, multi-media campaign.
