ARREST Highlighted on Wildlife Conservation Day in China. December 2012

ARREST-Newsletter_02_Oct-Dec-2012_final-63CI-logoIn support of Wildlife Conservation Day, ARREST Program’s partners FREELAND, IFAW and Conservation International joined representatives from government
departments, businesses and other NGOs in a series of events in China hosted by the US Embassy to China.On December 4th, following a meeting with China’s State Forestry Administration, US Under-Secretary Robert Hormats met with ARREST partners to discuss wildlife consumption and trafficking, suggesting support from the US government in facilitating cooperation between government and NGOs on these issues. FREELAND toured southern China with the US Consulate of Guangzhou to show documentary films on illicit wildlife trade and hold discussions with students, film makers and the general public. Feedback from the events is being used to update the ARREST demand reduction strategy in China.
